Audi A4 Will Not Start. It Turns Over But Wont Fire.

Customer Question

2011 Audi A4 was working fine Friday night, then Saturday morning it wouldn't start. Battery is not drained. It has a push-fob start. It will try to turn over but won't fire. The starter sounds much quieter than normal.
I used two different fobs. I charged the battery, removed the air filter and move to a level surface.
what is happening?

Ok it doesnt sound as though starter is engaging with drive plate. Its possible starter has failed.
Does engine actually turn? Can you see any pulleys on front of engine turning?
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
the pulls are turning

Ok and if you remove oil cap can you see the camshaft through hole ?

Ok does camshaft turn when engine is turning

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
If the camshaft is directly in the hole, then no, it is not moving
Expert:  Kevin replied 5 months ago.
It is. You haven't said which engine you have fitted but from the sounds of whats occurring. Either the timing belt or chain has failed and the reason the starter is turning faster is because there is no compression in engine.
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Sorry. 2.0 turbo
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
If that's the case, what are my options?
Expert:  Kevin replied 5 months ago.

Ok this would likely have caused damage to valves requiring cylinder head to be removed to repair .it looks like the engine has a timing chain fitted so its possible it broken .you will need to have this confirmed but from what you decribe it sounds as though this may be the case

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
What causes this? Would this happen from just being parked?
Expert:  Kevin replied 5 months ago.

It can happen at any time .how many miles have you covered ?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
About 125000
Expert:  Kevin replied 5 months ago.
Ok at that sort of mileage the chain may have weakened. Have you heard any rattling on startup?
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Not that I recall
Expert:  Kevin replied 5 months ago.
Ok you will need to have this confirmed with a compression test at a garage its the only way to know for sure.
Not really this is the next step I can only go on what you can see and if you cant see camshaft turning but crank is there is a big issue. Have compression test carried out and we can go from there.
