1984 audi 5000 s: pulling..speedometer..steering wheel

How do you reset the oxegn sensor on 1984 audi 5000s? I tried pulling the dash cover over speedometer but the steering wheel blocks acess. I have the 5cylinder engine. My manual says there is a button near the light to push. How do I get to this button? thanks,rebeca

Oxygen Sensor Indicator Light
Remove 2 upper and/or 2 lower instrument panel screws, lift off panel.
On some models it may be necessary to remove instrument cluster assembly. To do this, disconnect speedometer cable at transmission and speedo head, remove electrical connectors, and then remove instrument cluster.
Turn off "OXS" indicator light by breaking plastic tab off back of instrument cluster, then inserting suitable screwdriver in opening and pushing reset switch.

I tried to remove instrument panel but steering wheel blocks me from pulling it out, It pulls out about 2 inches, but will not clear steering wheel.

Is it a tilt column can you tilt the column down. This will help.

Mounting Screws

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Pull off horn pad, then remove steering wheel.
  3. Remove instrument cluster attaching screws (arrows).

Speedometer Cable At Transmission

  1. Disconnect speedometer cable at transmission.
  2. Pull out instrument cluster and disconnect speedometer cable at speedometer.
  3. Disconnect electrical connectors at instrument cluster and remove instrument cluster.
  4. Reverse procedure to install.
