JA: What's the make and model of your oven? And can you guesstimate how old it is?

Customer: there is no little pop when the gas goes on. on the back wall looks like a place for a pilot light. there no pilot

Answer:

If you hear no clicking for the spark electrode when turning it on for bake or broil, you have a bad gas valve. That is extremely common on that unit to fail. Here is a link to it
