Hello and welcome to Just Answer. My name is ***** ***** I will be helping you. Please give me a moment to review your question.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Can you give me the full model number (inside the microwave) and symptom?

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
JVM186OSD 002 built Feb 2002 When I go to use it the light comes and the timer runes but nothing else seems to happen
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Ok, so it acts like it is running, but isn't?

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

The timer is counting down but you can't hear it running?

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
the light comes on inside the microwave
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Ok, you have a bad door switch.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Is this something you want to replace yourself?

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
can you change that without dropping the mircrowave?
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Yes, in most cases. You need to take off the upper vent to expose the screws for the control panel.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Remove the control panel and test the switches. The bad one will likely have burned looking connectors and the button distorted.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Depending on the switch, it may be part number

wb24x829

or

wb24x830

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Although they are likely interchangeable.

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
I happen to have a new control panel (don't ask me why) its a control board with a screen the box says WB27x10438
JVM1860-2
Customer: replied 25 days ago.
will that help?
Customer: replied 25 days ago.
how to I take it apart?
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

I believe your control board is ok.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Remove the top vent to expose the control panel screw and take that off. You can then see the switches.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
are you going to send me a link or something on how to do it?
Customer: replied 25 days ago.
what about my part- will that help?
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

I will see if there is one, but very unlikely to be one for your exact model.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

I think the board is ok. I would not replace the board.

Is there anything else I can answer for you?

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
did you get the msg with me telling you about the fact that I have a new control board in the box wb27x10438
will that help?
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Yes. I replied. I would not replace the board.

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
why would the a bad door switch only disable the unit partially and let the light and timer work? sounds weird
is this a safety switch?
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Yes. it is a safety switch. Whenever the microwave counts down and does not run, it is always a bad switch.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

The board relay works, but the door switch will not let the microwave cook because it thinks the door is still open.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Does that make sense?

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Is there anything else I can answer?

I can not figure out how to open the panel
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

If the microwave is mounted properly, there should be some screws on top of the microwave that you unscrew to get the top vent off. Once you take off the top vent, you should see a screw at the top of the control panel. Take that off to expose the switches.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Is there anything else I can answer?

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Once you get the top screw off of the panel, push the panel up and pull forward.

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
exactly where are the screws?- this is all pretty useless unless you can tell me that
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

The screws to take off the top vent are on top of the microwave about an inch from the front.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

There are no screws on top of the microwave?

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

The microwave should be sticking out at least an inch or an inch and a half. If not, it is improperly mounted.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

And you will need to use an alternate method.

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
screw or 2- I see the one on the right
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Yes that is it. Remove them and you should be able to remove the top vent.

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
how about a schematic or should I look it up?
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

There is a schematic inside behind the control panel.

Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

Is there anything else I can answer?

Customer: replied 25 days ago.
where are the screws?
Expert:  Eng-Tech replied 25 days ago.

If the top screws are not visible then the microwave is improperly installed. You will need to take it down. I will opt out so that other experts can help.

I would like a refund
