Yes, you will want to turn the power off. The attached page shows how to access the control area for inspection.
Just the top one, you just need to get access to the back of the control panel.
The control has likely shorted (the electric incident) and disassembly will be required to see what has happened. If it flashed, it will be visible.
Well, something in that area if that is where the flash came from. It may be a melted wire, a connection that came off, hard to say until we get a look inside.
Well, if you are not comfortable with disassembly, yes. It will cost about $150 or more to have it diagnosed, plus labor and parts.
The trip charge would probably be pretty hefty, I am in south central Montana! :-)
