Need Appliance Repair Help? Ask a Technician for Answers ASAP
Hello, I'm Joel and will be glad to help you today.
Please give me a few minutes to review your question and prepare your answer as I may need to look up part numbers, schematics, etc;
Thank you for your patience.
every 8-12 hours your refrigerator goes into a defrost cycle to melt the ice off the evaporator coils
when this fails to happen due to a failed component of the defrost system the evaporator freezes up and becomes a block of ice, thus as say cuts off air flow to the top portion of the unit (the refrigerator compartment). The defrost system consists of a electronic control board that puts the unit into defrost, a defrost thermistor(temp sensor) in the freezer, a defrost-bi metal thermostat and a defrost heater.
Below I have linked you a download to the service tech sheet that I uploaded to my google drive account for you, follow the directions on the tech sheet and in service test mode run service test #1 and tell me what you get on the display so we can figure out what part of the defrost system has failed.
If it displays freezer 1 and refrigerator displays S. then the defrost bi metal is bad.
If it displays 1 - 0 its good.
let me know what you get, thanks.
