GE JVM 1650 microwave has quit heating. How can I fix it?

Customer Question

GE JVM 1650 microwave has quit heating. Turntable and everything else works. Any suggestions?
This was made in June 2005 and installed shortly after. It is a Spacemaker xl microwave model 1650.
It makes a buzzing sound shortly after starting.

It is likely to be the magnetron has failed. If the noise was obnoxious and loud, it may be a capacitor or diode failure, but that is a very distinct, almost scary, noise. How old is this microwave?

Okay, some had a 5 year warranty on the magnetron, but you are well past that. Do you have the rest of the model number? There are three different ones for the 1650 series.

Considering the age and the cost of the part, it may be wise to consider replacing the microwave....
