The cover does just pull off. You can slide a flat head screwdriver into the seam at the back of the cover where it clips onto the head of the icemaker to twist and pry to pop the cover off. If it's frozen, use a hair dryer and heat up the head of the icemaker for 5 minutes or so until it's thawed out enough to pop off.
