If it drains reliably but occasionally does not spin, the timer is likely skipping the pause that is necessary to allow the transmission to engage. It should drain, then it should stop for a few seconds, at which time the transmission shifts into the spin mode, then spin. If it skips the pause after it drains, it will just stay draining but the transmission will not engage. I suspect the timer will need to be replaced.
