I have a Maytag refrigerator with french doors and freezer

Customer Question

I have a Maytag refrigerator with french doors and freezer on the bottom. One side of the handle on the freezer door fell off. There is a screw sticking out of the back on the handle on the side that came off. There is also the set screw that goes up through the bottom of the handle. There is a hole in the freezer door where the handle goes, but nothing to screw that screw into. I called Maytag and was told I needed a stud bolt. I got the stud bolt (item #(###) ###-####part # *****), but I can't figure out how to install it. I wouldn't even call it a bolt. It's like a nut but the outside is smooth and the outside flares out. It is bigger than the hole in the freezer door. What do I do now? Thanks for the help.

What are the first three digits of the serial number please?

The retainer goes on and the screw goes through it and screws into the door.

Now if the screw has been ripped out of the door the hole that the screws originally secured to may have been enlarged so the screw will no longer hold .and you would need a larger diameter screw

Here is a parts break down so you can see how it is designed to be put together.
