Customer Question

I have a kitchenaid dishwasher (new) and it won't run after I start it. The lights blink like it starts and then after about 20 seconds everything turns off

Hi, welcome to Just Answer. My name is ***** ***** I look forward to helping you! Did it ever run correctly after being installed? When it shuts off, do all of the lights go off?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
it ran fine up until a day or so ago. Yes all of the lights go off
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Are you able to remove the lower access panel from below the door?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Let me see
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Great, thank you!

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I have to remove to screws, right?
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Correct, then the panel will come off.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Ok got it off
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Excellent! In the front right corner is a little metal box that houses the electrical connections. Can you remove that cover and see if those connections are secure or if they show any melting or burning, please?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I sit also screwed on?
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Is it*
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Yes, one small screw at the top or on the side of the cover.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
It all looks fine
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Okay, nice work!

To invoke the diagnostics cycle, perform the following key presses while in standby (all lights off). Press any 3 keys in the sequence 1-2-3, 1-2- 3, 1-2-3 with no more than 1 second between key presses.

Once the lights all come on, just let it run and see if it goes through several steps, including the wash motor coming on.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
With the door closed?
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Yes, please.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
It's flashed clean and then the light went outs but when I open it it is flashing clean and the normal, pro dry, and start lights are on too
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Now the clean light is flashing sporadically on the front
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Now the areal wash and hi temp wash buttons are flashing
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Okay, just keep the door closed as it works through that cycle to see if the motor comes on.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I think it just started
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Okay, great! Now, press the cancel button until all of the lights go out. Then, see if it will start a regular cycle and stay running, please.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Shoot! It stopped
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Did it go totally dead again?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I'm not sure. The cancel light is on inside again
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
But there is water in it
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Flashing or solid?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Solid and it's not draining
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

If you press the cancel button once, do you hear the drain humming or buzzing at all?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
But no lights are on in the front panel
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
It is not draining
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Okay, I suspect the main control is faulty. It initiated the diagnostics so we know it is not another component causing the problem. The control is available below but if less than a year old, it is under warranty.
