My GE Monogram commercial refrigerator has began icing up on

Customer Question

My GE Monogram commercial refrigerator has began icing up on the back wall over the coils behind the produce drawers. When it does this, it will not cool as it should. This happened about 2.5 months ago and has now happened again. I turn it off, allow the ice to melt and it will be ok for about 2 months. What is causing this and how can I remedy the problem? The model number is *****
Thank you,
Marsha

Thanks for counting on us to help with your appliance problem. My name is ***** ***** I look forward to helping you! You either have a plugged defrost drain or the defrost cycle is not working correctly. I don't think it has totally failed because it would frost up sooner than 2 months. When the unit stops cooling, is the entire coil frosted up or mostly just toward the bottom?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It has thick ice to a height of about 18 inches up the back of the fridge behind the produce drawers.

Oh wow, okay. Can you see that slowly building or is it there one day and was not the day before?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Im not sure but I think it builds slowly.

Does the unit seem to run a lot? That model has no defrost components, it is a natural defrost when it cycles off. Do the temperatures inside stay good and consistent?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The temps are good until the ice builds up. It isn't running all the time.

Is the fan running inside? Has the condenser coil on the top of the cabinet been cleaned and is that fan up there running?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I will check those things.

It's running now.

Okay, let me know what you find.

I will watch it for a day or two and let you know.
