I will be glad to help you with your question today. Please tell me all the things you had done on your machine prior to asking your question.
Can you remove the compactor from the location that it is in and lay it down on the side?
If so, there is a cover on the bottom. Remove the cover and you will see a chain and two sprockets and a gear that you can then rotate and back off the ram and get it up

Yes I took off the back and can see that the ram is still down on the garbage and can see the chain. How do I get it to release
Expert:  ApplianceTech replied 1 year ago.
Wow, that is an old compactor.
You should be able to take a big wrench and turn it either left or right to make the ram move.
Do you have the model number off the label on the machine?

What happens, when you try to turn the big nut?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I turned the big nut and it spins the chain but the ram
Does not come up
When I turn on the compactor the little silver sprocket spins but does not move the chain

I think the motor gear in stripper out. Will the motor run when you try to start it?Or does it just spin?
