The freezer seems to be working fine. When I open the door the fan sounds like it's running. And no, the light does not come on when I open the door even after replacing the bulb.
No, but I'll do that now. I'll let you know what happens.
Seems like that worked! Lights are back on.

Well, the problem continues. The inside light, followed by the control panel light, keep going off. Each time I have to unplug the freezer for 5 minutes and then plug it back in. Not sure I hear the fan come on everytime I open the door when the lights are off although everything seems to still be frozen hard. Since it keeps happening and I'm not comfortable trusting the freezer with several $'s work of food, should I try something else or just buy a new freezer?
No.....probably 2-3 weeks. I've spent a few weeks unplugging and plugging (rebooting) until now.
An outlet on a different circut is not possible. The freezer is located in the garage and there is only one circut. I'll try the surge protector.
I put the freezer on a surge protector. Since then I have had to reboot the freezer 3 or 4 times. Usually the inside light stops working first but it sounds like the motor continues to run and the food stays frozen. Today I went out to find the control panel as on "1" rather than "4". The light was out (as it has been for a few days) but the control panel would not respond to any of the buttons I pushed....again, the motor seems to be running. I rebooted it again and everything went back to normal. I'm wondering if I should just replace that control panel......
