Hello, thanks for letting us answer your questions. We appreciate your business!
Unfortunately, there is no way to clean the switch in question on your machine. I just worked on a similar Kenmore that has the same kind of problem with the water temp button. My customer had to keep repeatedly pushing the button to get it to change temps. The only way to fix your machine is to replace the control behind the push buttons.
The little switches on the board jsut go bad.
What is the name of the "control" I have to replace? Also, is it the same procedure recommended by the appliance doctor: unplug, remove three screws, pull panel forward? Then what?
Yes, it is located on the control panel and it easy to replace. Same procedureYou can purchase the part here.http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Main-Control-Board/8564392/1180385
I am surprised at the cost. The one I ordered for my customer was almost $300
Although, it is still an expensive part for such a new machine :(
Sears wants $295 for the same part with no return policy.
Did you have any other questions for me today?
Thanks for the help. If we're (you and me) are sure this is the fix then I'll go $300 for the main control board. No more questions.
You are saving money by doing it yourself. I would say it worth it as you will have to pay 700-900 to replace the machine.
