We have Model #GDWT300R10BB Ge Dishwasher, which will not turn

Customer Question

We have Model #GDWT300R10BB Ge Dishwasher, which will not turn on, even though the power strip lights work, and we tried the 30 sec. reset via disconnecting the power completely. We also checked to be sure the Control panel was unlocked Could this be a defective Module Control that I can purchase and install myself? Is there something else I should check first?

Hello, and thank you for using this service. I'll be helping you with your problem today.

First, there are no reset buttons or anything that you can just push to get the dishwasher working again. If you're certain that there is power getting to the dishwasher, remove the kick panel below the dishwasher and look for the 3" x 3" sheet metal box with the wire connections in it. Turn the circuit breaker off to the dishwasher or unplug the dishwasher before servicing. Remove the cover plate and look at the wire connections to see if any of the wires in the junctions box have shorted out. If they have been shorted or melted, you'll need to cut them back and re-wire them. If you find nothing at all wrong with the connections, then your control board is just shorted for one reason or another and the control board inside the door will need to be ordered and replaced. As for the control board, below is a link to the board you'd need to order for your model and if you're handy, you can definitely replace the part yourself.

The wires are fine. How do I replace the control module, and how difficult is this? How do you know this is the problem?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Relist: Incomplete answer.
Expert:  MRANSWER replied 1 year ago.
The touchpad or the control is probably what is wrong here. There is no way to test either part, so I would get both and return the one that you did not need. Touchpads fail way more often than anything on dishwashers. Either part is easily replaced by removing the door front. I would make sure the door switches are working before anything else on the outside chance one is not engaging. The touchpad sticks on with its adhesive backing , so if you try a new one DO NOT stick it in place- just connect it loose and see if that does it as you cannot pull it off once installed without ruining it.

Your feedback was helpful. But where are the door switches? I don't see them in the schematic for this model.

Expert:  MRANSWER replied 1 year ago.
Take the door panel off and you will see where they are. Any dishwasher has door switches.
Expert:  MRANSWER replied 1 year ago.
So, what else is needed here?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I did open the door panel, and have located the door-switch. But can you please tell me, from the parts listed below, which part would be considered a door-switch? I wish this was more obvious, so I could do it myself. But it doesn't seem very clear, for none of the parts are specifically identified as a door-switch. The schematic for these parts can be found on the net at: https://www.geapplianceparts.com/GEApplianceParts/modelsectionsearch

Thanks for your help. I was interrupted by Thanksgiving-related activities. Otherwise, I would have responded sooner.

There is a small plunger that actuates the switches when it hits the door strike- the switches are under a small plastic cover.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I know where the door switch is located. But I need your help to identify this part from the list I sent you, because none of these parts are identified as door switches.

Expert:  MRANSWER replied 1 year ago.
See if the switches are clicking or not before worrying about part#s.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

There seems to be only one switch, and it does click.

Expert:  MRANSWER replied 1 year ago.
Then it's fine as long as it clicks when the door shuts. No need to worry about it or its part# XXXXX that case.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Thank you! You have been very helpful.

Expert:  MRANSWER replied 1 year ago.
Thanks and good luck with this. positive feedback is appreciated and you can always post back if you need anything else on this issue. Don't let it become a money pit- replacing one part does not give renewed life to any others.
