We have a 24 year old sub zero that is not cooling consistently throughout the unit. Because of cabinetry and a potential move in next couple of years I would like to investigate rebuilding. Any input on praticality and cost.
Hello..It is my Pleasure To Be Working With You Today.,,,You would first need to know what is causing the problem..Is it a faulty compressor..? A blocked or leaky coil..Etc. Do you have a model Number..?

It is a 532. We plan on getting a tech out this week to let us know what is wrong. It has been on decline for about 3 months. The lower compartments freeze and upper are too warm.

Ok great..Most likely is compressor problems..You can check this by Removing the top grill..Then feel the compressors..They should not be hot to the touch..The fans next to them should be running..

If its a compressor issue and the rest of the box is okay.....can you guess as to what would be reasonable to rebuild. The other question would be, how hi does one go before it is a stupid decision to rebuild? Thx.....

Again Depending upon the exact problem..Most often on a Sub Zero at this age you would be better off replacing than repairing in most cases..For one the power consumption on this model compared to the newer models is by far much more. The least expensive route would be to first have the tech come out and determine the exact cause with a estimate of parts and labor.. They will normally charge a small fee for the diagnostics.
