Hello and Help! My ice maker has stopped working. There is stil a little ice in the bucket, but also there is ice still frozen inside where the ice tilts into the door bucket. Is this something I can fix or do I need an app repairmen? Model number; ksbs25fk. The freezer works fine.
Optional Information: Brand: K-aidType of Appliance: FreezerWhat have you tried so far?: Turned it off for a few days and tried to dig out remaining ice. Is there a filter that could be plugged?
Thanks for counting on us to help with your appliance problem. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X look forward to helping you! If you raise the flap that covers the icemaker, are there any ice cubes stuck in the "fingers" that eject the cubes?
Yes, there is ice in the fingers and I tried to chip it out, but haven't succeeded.
That is why the icemaker has quit. On the bottom of the icemaker, on the RH side, is a 1/4" screw. Remove it and the plastic cover it secures. Unplug the icemaker and slide it out and you can take it to the sink and use hot water. Let me know if you get it out.
I took the screw off and the entire piece moves forward about two inches, but it will not come out. Am I working on the wrong screw?
Did you take the cover off that the screw held in place, the one over the connector?
I got the unit out, but I an having trouble unplugging. Is there some trick to it?
There is a little tab on the side of the connector that releases by pulling it up to unlock.
Ok, I got it out and now have gotten rid of thexcess ice. So all I have to do is put it all back, right?
You bet, nice job! You should have fresh ice in a few hours. Did the plastic guide come out of position or does it all look good?
This will be a challenge because a couple of pieces came off in my hand upon removal so I will try to fit them back in place. Can you stand by until this surgery is complete?
Absolutely, what pieces? Do they appear to be broken?
Success! I put everything back the way it is supposed to be and hopefully I will be getting ice soon. I am happy to pay the fifty bucks, so what next?

Hello Kelley- so I did all the steps that you indicated so far, but my ice maker is still NOT giving me ice. Could there be a filter that is clogging the line?. What items usually go wrong with ice makers? Is there a checklist that I can follow? I am trying to determine if the motor/unit is bad and what they cost. Thanks, Phil V.
You bet! The fingers that eject the cubes from the icemaker, are they pointed forward and slightly upward?
No, they are not, it looks all smooth, and I don't see any fingers showing. PV.
That would be the issue. When the ice jammed the ejector fingers, the motor likely kept turning and broke the plastic cam. Remove the icemaker from the freezer and take off the plastic cover from the front of it. It will just pull off. Inspect the large, white plastic gear in the middle, specifically the two tabs that hold it tight. Is one of those tabs broken?

I'm having a heck of a time trying to see the plastic cam. Nothing appears to be broken, but if the drive is faulty, I'm willing to purchase a new part. What is the cost of this unit?
The part that breaks is circled below. Will the large white gear pull off?
I can't seem to pull the white gear section out, so I feel like I am now checkmated. How much are we talking about for a new part?
Let's look at one more thing first. To answer your question, the part is about $130 or so. but let's look at the optics. If you open the freezer door and close the little flapper on the left side while keeping your hand below the hole in the flapper, will the light on the RH side stay steady on?
The light flashes two times in series with a pause in between. It has been doing this from the start.
So even with the flapper held in, it flashes?
Yes.
Okay, that would indicate that the optics are faulty. Go ahead and out the icemaker back into place. I suspected the icemaker first because the optics rarely fail with the icemaker in a mid harvest position, with the "fingers" out of place. The optics boards come as a kit and are accessed by removing the screws from each panel, there are three screws in each and the boards will simply unplug. The kit you need is pictured and available below!

Ok, now I will try to put everything back and order this part, it doesnt look too difficult to put in ,right?
No, it is very easy. Much easier than the icemaker!
Ok I have the part I need , and I have some time to do this. What would be the next step? Phil V.

There are three screws on each panel that the optics go on. Remove those screws and unplug the boards and install the new ones.
Ok, I have put in the new optics parts- perhaps tomorrow I will be getting some ice. Talk to you soon. PV.
Great! Keep me posted!
Still no ice. I think now its either the motor or my water line is plugged. What do you think? PV
