is this a part I can replace myself or should I have a service person fix it?

If your handy you can do this yourself. you will need to remove the top of the machine to get to the screws to remove it. heres some diagrams also.when you get the top off theres a service tech sheet taped to the inside. this will also have a service diagnostic procedure you can try running. if the control doesn't respond though its because the interface has failed but it wouldn't hurt to try. thanks Bryan,

P.S. the tech sheet is number 1 on the diagram.
