Hi. I'm Smitty. I am a professional appliance repair consultant here to help you diagnose, and repair, your appliance.
The motor in your unit uses a centrifugal clutch switch to keep the motor running after it has started. If the switch fails then the motor will only run if you have the start switch activated.
Unfortunately the only way to repair this is to replace the whole motor. The switch is not available separately.
Thank you for trusting me with your problems. The Home Smithy

It was transported on its side, would that have caused the switch to fail?
Is there an adjustment that can be done to the motor?
No transporting it will not affect the clutch. There is no adjustment to the clutch.
The only resolution is to replace the whole motor.
