Hello and thank you for using this service. When you say the controls are not working what do you mean? Is the unit just not running?
Correct; neither the freezer or fridge is running. But light is on. Controls are unresponsive
Ok, you need to check and see if the fan in the freezer is running and blowing air from the vents. If it is pull the unit out and take off the back lower panel to see if the compressor is running along with the fan next to it. The compressor should be vibrating if it is running and the fan next to it should be running as well. If it is not then you more than likely have a failure on the main control board. The main board is behind a panel in back of the unit above and to the right of the compressor. Remove the 3 screws that hold it in place. Unplug the refrig and unplug the connectors off the board, most of them so you can get the board out and look at the backside of it. Using a needle nose pliers squeeze the four white posts that hold the board in place. After you squeeze one gently pry the board forward so it starts to slide off the post, then do the next one and so on..until the board comes off. Once the board is off you will see a large black relay on the front side....Flip the board over so you can see the solder traces and look at the points where that large black relay goes through. You more than likely will see a solder joint like this.
CLICK HERE If you see that the board is bad and will need to be replaced. That is the realy compressor terminal and the compresssor will not run without it. The new board solves this issue. Here is a link to it
