Refrigerator and freezer quit working. Relay on control board was clicking all the time, so I replaced the board. After install, compressor will turn on for only a few seconds every couple of minutes. Is it the relay starts on the compressor itself, or the compressor? Compressor sounds fine when it starts, but only lasts a couple of seconds. Neither the fridge or freezer works.Temp controls normal. Lights and everything works except for the compressor short cycling.

Hi, thank you for using this service. I will be assisting you with your question today. The compressor relay is the part that is giving you the problem if the compressor trys to run but then cuts off.
There are two parts for my relay. Do I need to order them both? I'm in it for $100 already, and the relays are going to be around $50. Thought it was just the board, as the relay was clicking constantly, but now the condenser won't turn on, even though the board is fine. I'm hesitant to pay another $50 for a refrigerator that may possibly need a compressor...
Could you give me the model number off of the refrigerator please so i can look at the model, thanks.
PDS20SFSALSS. Again, replaced the board, and the compressor will only start for a few seconds and quit.
Thank you, XXXXX XXXXX a few minutes.
The relay is not 2 parts one of the parts is the overload, you do not need that if it went out the compressor would not come on at all, if you had a bad compressor it would not start or make a real loud nose if was locked up. This is a picture and 1 place to order the relay, shopping around you may even find it cheaper. CLICK HERE
So it's just the motor starter that went out?
Yes it sounds that way, relay, motor starter what ever you want to call it. It could have also damaged the board relay trying to start, I have seen that happen also where it needed both parts.
