subzero 590 makes ice but auger will not turn...ice not stuck or hardened...motor makes noise but auger blade does not turn
Optional Information: Brand: Subzero Type of Appliance: Refrigerator Already Tried: Think I need an auger drive motor and bracket assembly but it is non-returnable so am trying to confirm this diagnosis rather than pay a $170 service call since I live in the country...thx.
Hello, Thank you for using this service, I will be helping you with your problem today
do you have the model # XXXXX I can better assist you ?
590 as stated above...serial #M1223416
okay sorry saw that after. are you able to turn the fork by hand ? or with a pair of pliers?
Yes, a bit still but I can turn it.
okay do you have it out yet ? you can test this with a patch cord plugged into the wall. its 120 volts and if you apply 120 volts to the brown and the white wire on the motor this will either run or not run. its the best way to tell if its bad.
OK, I will get my husband to take it out tonight when he comes in from farm work...do you have access to any diagrams...he is an accomplished engineer...thx
Actually yes I have a link to the diagrams. click the blue link below. hope this helps, thanks and best wishes, Bryan
diagrams
When I click on those links, I get a small pic and even enlarged it is not big...cannot seem to get any real detailed info
I know ,unfortunately Sub Zero is very hard to find diagrams for. there isn't many as it is and they all look like that. I think your husband will be able to get the auger motor out though. sorry I wish I had better diagrams.

Please quit sending followup emails...my husband has not tackled the project yet...other more pressing ranch problems have demanded his attention....please be patient. Thank you. I will let you know!
I'm sorry thats the computer doing it automatically.I will wait for your reply, just disregard the reminders until your ready. thanks, Bryan
OK, finally the task has been completed...when it was all disconnected and the freezer and icemaker turned off he got shocked holding the leads to the switch that indicates the presence of the ice bin. After applying external electrical source to the auger motor, the auger motor was activated by using the ice demand button inside the refrigerator. When everything was reconnected it no longer operated by pressing the ice demand button. He is thinking it is perhaps the wiring harness. What do you think? You were right about not buying a new motor, that is clear. Thanks for that!
Relist: Incomplete answer.Just ask Bryan to reply to my last answer. Thank you.
if he got shocked it sounds like there could be a short in the harness, when you say he applied external power source how did he do that ? did he just put 120 volts to the auger motor ?
He stripped wires on an old extension cord, hooked up wires, then we plugged it into the wall. His father was a master electrican so he has learned a lot from him over the years so I think he did this part correctly.
I'm sorry I didn't get your reply,so he hooked power up directly to the auger motor and it worked so the motor is good. sound like theres a problem with the dispenser control or the switch on the dispenser.
What about getting shocked? Do you still think there is a short in the harness? How would we determine if the problem is the dispenser control or switch on the dispenser? When we push the button inside the refrigerator for ice to dispense, one can hear the motor running so would that eliminate the dispenser control?
you can hear the auger turning when you press the button ?mmmm as far as getting shocked if it was wet from moisture this can happen I'm not sure you have a short but the wiring may have been wet. did you see if the auger fork was turning and you were not able to stop it by hand. (I'm wondering if its stripped)
