My refrigerator is warm and the back of the freezer is iced over
Type of Appliance: Refrigerator
replaced defrost timer
Hello and thank you for using this service. Can I have the make and complete model off the unit?
Alright thanks,The most likely issue is the defrost thermostat or the defrost heater. Remove the back freezer panel/ Once off you will see the iced over evaporator. The defrost thermostat is clamped to the top right hand side of the evaporator. You need to check it visually or with a meter. If it looks like it is starting to pop apart it is bad. If you test it with a meter check it for continuity. When it is cold it should read closed on a meter. If you think it is ok then you need to check the heater. The heater wraps around the evaporator. You can see the wires coming up on the sides, they are black in color. You can unplug it and check that for continuity as well. It will more than likley be the thermostat, but could be the heater. Here is a link to them part #21 and #14 are the thermostat and heater.CLICK HERE

Thank You. It appears to be the Defrost heater. I've ordered a replacement. I'll follow up if that doesn't solve the problem.
Ok just make sure it tests bad. The defrost thermostat is far more common. and will kill power to the heater if it is bad. Good luck and let me know
Then part came in today. I removed the old heater (it came out in two pieces), the coil had burned almost halfway between the connectors. Everything is back together and plugged in. Thanks for the assistance.
