Whirlpool Fridge Icemaker. Have replaced control box, mold,

Resolved Question:

Whirlpool Fridge Icemaker. Have replaced control box, mold, thermostat and water pumps. Good water pressure. Mold fills and makes ice. Dumps first batch and refills mold. Second batch, fingers are against ice and can hear motor running trying to kick out ice but it won't pop out.Still frozen solidly to mold. Would blame theromstat or mold if they hadn't already been replaced.

Hello, and thank you for using this service. I'll be helping you with your problem today.

I wouldn't blame either the thermostat or the mold actually. I'd say you really need to replace the entire icemaker. The thermostat is only there to cycle the icemaker once the ice has frozen. Your icemaker is trying to cycle so that means the thermostat is fine. The mold has the heater built into it so I suppose that could cause the problem, but I've never seen a heater fail on one of the Whirlpool icemakers. The head of the icemaker is just not sending power to the heater to loosen the ice from the mold when it's trying to release. You can usually purchase the head of the icemaker separate from the rest of the icemaker, but it usually costs almost the same and can result in leaks sometimes I really recommend just ordering and replacing the entire icemaker.

Define 'head' please. Is that the part that the motor and cog wheel and all the copper strips are attached to? Or the black plastic part that the mold attaches to and has the posts sticking out of it?

Expert:  appliance Doc replied 1 year ago.

It's the part with the motor and the cog wheel and everything that is electrical on the icemaker. The plastic molding is nothing more than a case to protect the head of the icemaker.

That's what I called the control box....It's new. Possibly bad?

Expert:  appliance Doc replied 1 year ago.

it is possibly bad, but again this is just another reason I recommend buying the entire icemaker instead of just one part---you could have a bad connection between the heater and head of the icemaker. I don't know a single technician that tries to replace pieces on these icemakers unless it's just the cheap thermostat. It just don't make since and you run into problems just liek you're having now.
