Customer replied 361 days and 15 hours ago.

Then I need to know how/where to take out this igniter and to reinstall it.

Picture
Expert:  Tom Johnston replied 361 days and 15 hours ago.

Remove the lint filter there are two screws there remove them. Then use a putty knife inbetween the top and front about three inches in from the corners. There are two clips one on each side press in on them and lift the top. Then on the inside of the front are two screws remove them. Lean the front forward and release the two door springs at the bottom. The igniter is just inside the flame tube. Take the belt off the idler and motor pulley. And plug the dryer back in and start it check to see if the igniter glows and let me know what happens.

Customer replied 361 days and 15 hours ago.

Picture
Expert:  Tom Johnston replied 361 days and 15 hours ago.

No there is no other safety switch double check that the door is closed properly and the switch is connected properly.

Customer replied 361 days and 14 hours ago.

Yes, door was open. With door closed and light off, motor starts, but no heat and don't see anything glowing in flame tube.

Igniter must be teh high temp two wires going to two white ceramic blocks just inside tube?

Yes that is it. Do you have a voltage tester ?

Customer replied 361 days and 14 hours ago.

120V DC & AC tester.

Got dryer running, no heat, unplugged the igniter coupling and can't show any voltage on machine-side of that coupling.

Ok in that case the problem is the thermal fuse. You need to remove the lower back panel of the dryer. The fuse is on the left down near the bottom of the blower housing it is white. It is 2 inches long by a quarter inch wide with two wires going to it.

If this has been helpful please press accept.Smile

Customer replied 361 days and 14 hours ago.

I have it off, any way to test it?

IS there a way to test the igniter?

If I go to parts store, is it worth buying both new & replacing so this won't happen again?

You can tape the ends of the wires together with electrical tape and test the dryer. Make sure the ends of the wires are making a good connection.

Customer replied 361 days and 14 hours ago.

taped ends of wires to thermal fuse together and clamped tight together.

Started dryer motor, no glow at igniter.

NAy ideas?

P.S. after we solve this dryer problem, do you do kenmore dish washers also?

Will we need to start a different help request to do that DW or can I just pay you double (if DW gets talked through successfully)?

With the wires taped together check for voltage at the igniter with the dryer running.

Customer replied 361 days and 14 hours ago.

thermal wires taped & clamped together, motor started, no voltage at machine-side of coupling to igniter.

More ideas?

Picture
Expert:  Tom Johnston replied 361 days and 14 hours ago.

On the side of the flame tube is a square box with two wires going to it. Tape them together and try it.

Picture
Expert:  Tom Johnston replied 361 days and 14 hours ago.

The flame tube is where the igniter is.

Customer replied 361 days and 13 hours ago.

Did that. motor going, thermal fuse wires clamped together, igniter connector intact, black box on side to flame tube - has its wires connected together with single strip of steel with both terminals slid on it.

Any ideas?

And you still have no power to the igniter ?

Customer replied 361 days and 13 hours ago.

Just made sure everything else was still clamped. Thermal fuse & black box at side of flame tube. motor on

Igniter wasn't on, and no voltage at the machine-side connector going to igniter.

Any ideas?

Then you need to replace the timer it is not sending power to the igniter.

That is inside the control panel on top. It is what you use to set the drying time. Remove the back of the control panel to access it. Make sure you make a diagram of the wires if you are going to remove it.

If this has been helpful please press accept.Smile

Customer replied 361 days and 13 hours ago.

I see it now.

Will go buy new one and bring back and connect one wire at time.

So that ends the dryer repair session.

I'm pleased with your help. A lot of checking to make sue what has failed.

So the DW questions? pay you for this and start all over with just ask, or stay with you?

What is the problem with the DW ?

Customer replied 361 days and 13 hours ago.

Kenmore elite model 665.13102K902, about 5 years old. Dishes not getting clean.

some white detergent seen stopping up holes in spray arms - that was poked clear.

bottom screen all clear. manual talks about inspecting/clearing chopper and its check valve, but no pictures as to how to do that.

You need to remove the lower spray arm. Hold the wing in the center and spin it to the left it comes off. Then the piece it was attached to twist it to the right it comes off. There is a tab at the back you have to lift before you spin it. Then remove the screen. Then inside the housing on the left is a dome held with a screw remove it. That is where the chopper is. You need torques head screw drivers to do this.

Customer replied 361 days and 12 hours ago.

got into all that, screen off. inside housing is nothing.

the low sump intake area has slit openings, but no dome or screw.

ONly a clear plug of sorts on right.

There are no other filters other then the screen on top. Use a flat head screw driver to pop the cover off. It is just stuck. I have to leave shortly.

Tom Johnston, Same original; problem. No heat even though gas is live at wall.

Your timer diagnosis didn't work.

Just installed new timer, and no heat.

Checked gas and its live at wall.

Help - what could it be?

Is the igniter still not getting power ?

Customer replied 348 days and 20 hours ago.

When I checked while you were helping me on 5/13, there was no 120V power at igniter, or when i bypassed the ceramic fuse.

Then you said it was the timer. New timer installed now and same No Heat.

I checked and gas is live at wall.

Any ideas to try this weekend? Won't get back into it until tonight.

Jim Rankin

Picture
Expert:  Tom Johnston replied 348 days and 20 hours ago.

Beside the fuse is a thermostat try by passing it.

Customer replied 348 days and 20 hours ago.

I'll try that tonight and let you know. I assume this is all 120V, as my voltage meter doesn't do small volts, only 120v and up.

Picture
Expert:  Tom Johnston replied 348 days and 19 hours ago.

Yes it is all 120.

Customer replied 348 days and 19 hours ago.

talk to you later when I've bypassed the t-stat prbably tonight.

Customer replied 347 days and 14 hours ago.

Tom Johnston, You on line?

Hello,
Thanks for using Justanswer.com I will be helping you today. The part that failed is most likely the thermal cut out it is located on the back closer to the top on the burner tube. Check both for continuity. I replace these allot and pretty positive this is your problem. They are a kit and need to be changed together and they come with directions. Part 280010

This is such a good resource for Owner's with some fix-it talent.

I assume this is covered with the first $45 I paid to finally get the right answer?

I've got to return the $120 timer, refund is minus shipping both ways and restock fee.
