type 80 washer opened lid defeated the lid switch watched action on regular cycle. when got to spin mode did not spin but a slight push made the spin operate and dry properly

Sounds to me like a bad start winding on the motor, Unfortunately this will need to be replaced.

Take the model number to a local appliance repair supplier and ask for the motor.
