Hi, thanks for using JustAnswer.com. Please remember, I do not get paid for my time and expertise until you accept. Can you hear a fan running in the freezer section? Do you see any frost on the back wall inside the freezer?Kelly
Fan is running in the freezer No frost is evident on the back wall of the freezer
What are the controls set on in the refrigerator?
We noticed last night that it wasn't keeping food cold we moved the dial from a 6/7 to a 9 and when we woke this morning it was noticeably warmer
Turning the freezer temperature to colder will result in warmer fresh food temperatures. Turn both controls to midpoint and see if you can feel any cold air at the air vent in the front left corner of the controls.
I reduced the temperature to the mid point - I felt at the vent as suggested and do not feel any air flow from this location
Okay, you will need to remove the rear panel from inside the freezer to check for frost that is likely blocking the air flow across the evaporator. There are a couple of 1/4" screws that secure the panel in place. Once removed, let me know what you see. You will need to remove the freezer contents and shelves from the lower portion of the freezer.
The coil is covered by an even coating of frost If I defrost the freezer will this be a permanent solution or something that must be undertaken periodically?I don't think the frost on the coil is substantial but would any frost have an effect?
Yes, there should be no frost. Could a door have been left open you think?
That is a possibility as we had a dinner party the other night. If the problem persists and the coil continues to ice over could there be another problem
Yes, there are three components in the defrost circuit; defrost timer, heater and bimetal. The control is the most likely to fail. Thaw the coil totally out and let it run for about a week and see how it does. If it frosts up again, you can simply post back to this thread, at no additional charge, and we can proceed with diagnostic testing.

Hi Kelly,
Defrosting the coil of the fridge seemed to help for about a month - but the issue is now back!
In our last communication you said that you would be able to help provide a diagnosis to the problem - could you please help?
Thank you for your time in advance
Absolutely! Do you have a meter to test with? One of the defrost components has failed, I suspect the control. With a meter, you can test the heater and thermostat which will allow us to rule them out and by process of elimination, point to the control or identify the faulty part.
Hi Kelly - I don't have a meter to test any of the components with - is there any other way?
Well, not really with any certainty. However, I can tell you that the heater and thermostat hardly ever fail. It is almost always the control, so replacing the control is a pretty safe, fairly inexpensive gamble. The control is in the upper RH corner of the refrigerator section, number 13 in the breakdown diagram. It takes about 30 minutes or less to replace. If you order the control, I can walk you through replacing it once you receive it. It is available below.

Thanks Kelly - I have ordered the part and will touch base with you when it arrives in a couple days - is there any prepatory work i can do in the mean time - my intent is to de-frost the freezer tonight and have it ready to go for when the part arrives.
Just defrosting the freezer. The rest is disassembly, so we can tackle that when you receive the part.
Thanks
