My ARB2257CSR seems to have gone into defrost mode but won't start again. The lights are on, fans seem to be running, but it's not cold. I put temperature at coldest and it's still room temperature. I've tried resetting the breaker on our hydro panel and I've pulled it out and cleaned grills/coils, etc.

Hello my name is XXXXX XXXXX you for choosing our service. Please take your time and make the checks below.Check to see that the freezer fan is blowing steady air out of the vent in the freezer, is it?Go around behind the unit and remove the lower panel. Touch the compressor on the top. Is the compressor hot, warm or cold and is it vibrating? And have you heard a buzz or click from back there? Is the fan back there working as well? Thanks,Barry CLICK TO ENLARGE
This will take a few minutes to do ... The fridge back is not easily accessible. The fan in the freezer is running and seems to be steadily blowing air. I'll double check.
I understand, please take all the time you need I will be here.Barry
Finally got the back portion off to access the compressor. It's hot on top (couldn't leave fingers there for more even a second. The fan was running fine at the back.
Thank you, XXXXX XXXXX side of the compressor where the wires go does the part you have there look like the picture below?BarryCLICK TO ENLARGE
No ... it doesn't look like this. There is a small white module that the wires are plugged into.
I thought you might say that. The parts lists are showing 2 different styles for one model number.Do not order these parts online. Call around to local repair and service shops in your town. Try to get exactly what you have. Usually this is the part that has failed however if the compressor is extremely hot the problem can be the compressor and not the relay/overload. The heat is an indicator of how much power the compressor is actually getting. On the compressor pictured below the parts are mounted where the red arrow is pointing in the picture. The parts pull straight off, they fit tightly but they will pull off. Change the parts and wire it and plug it in. BarryCLICK TO ENLARGE
Take a look at the compressor, can you find a sticker anywhere that says Tecomseh on it?Barry
It had Tecumseh on it ... did you want a model number or something?
No thanks thats all I needed to know, if it has the sticker on it the problem is the compressor. Those compressors are not well made. Amana uses different vendors to make the compressors they use and that brand is very common to fail. I do not believe you will have any luck replacing the relay/overload on the compressor. That means you will have to call for a compressor replacment and the following questions you need to ask before accepting an agreement for an appliance repair. What is the minimum you charge for a compressor replacement? What is your warranty period for a compressor replacement? The price there will be different than the price here for a compressor replacement, the price of the part and the labor. The price of the part at Sears in the US is $309. And the company I work for charges $500 US to put one in, thats is all I can give you to judge by, the prices will be different in Canada. This will give you some idea if you want to repair it or not.Barry
