I am running a diagnostic on my Kenmore dryer model(NNN) NNN-NNNN I get an indication that is not in the Diagnostic Guide. May I send you the indications I have received?
Optional Information: Brand: Kenmore Type of Appliance: Dryer Already Tried: When we started to run a second dryer load today we had no action when we pressed START. I ran the diagnostic test as shown on page 1. All LED’s light and display shows “88.” With no flashing error code I decided to run the console switches test. All results were satisfactory except when I pressed START the display changed to “EL” What does this tell us?
There is NO EL could it be E1?
No. there is a definite horizontal line at the bottom of that digit and a definite vertical line to the left.
Your model only has 4 error codes PF ,E1,E2 ,E3 and those are the only ones .
So it will have to be E1
Why are you running the diagnostics ?
This is confusing to me. My manual says that an error code will be flashing and will appear at the start of the test. This "EL" indication is not flashing and does not appear until very late in the console switches testing.
My manual tells me what to do if I get one of the three error codes (E1, E2, or E3) you mention. I do not get any of those. The manual does not tell me what to do if I do not get an error code. Despite that, the dryer is not working. I have checked the door switch and inspected the wiring, reset the power circuit breakers, reseated the plug in the outlet. Still no dryer action. I'm out of ideas.
Ok are you able to program a selection and press start ?
And if so what does it do ? just set there ,count down ,run but not heat.
Yes, I am able to progaram a selection. When I press START I can hear a realy click but the dryer does not start up and run. If I press STOP I hear the same sort of relay click. If I press STOP a second time it clears the program. We have done this a good many times today and always get the same result. That is, all we hear is a relay click but we get no drum rotation or any other action.
Does this model have a time display on it that counts down as the unit is running?
yes, it does.
Does the time count down ,even thro it is not running?
I discussed that with my wife while we were waiting for your reply. She has just gone down to the laundry to try that. Neither of us could recall if we had left it in that mode long enough (several minutes) to see if the clock would count down.
OK. She called up to say it started at "36" minutes and it just clicked down to "35". So, yes, it does appear to count down even though the drum is not turning.

Ok do you have a Volt-Ohm meter?
Yes, I have a Fluke. I also have the trouble shooting pages open on this desk so let me know what suggestions you have.

ok you will need to open the console and go to the control .
Test the lite blue P1-4 marked motor to P1-3 blue with the unit counting down look for 120 volts A/C
OK. This may take a while as I haven't opened the console before. Also, my diagram
doesn't show me where P1 is. I only see P4 and P3. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. This is very helpful.
here is my tech sheet .

OK. Back with you. I do in fact have a solid 120 VAC with the countdown running. (The bad news is I lost one of the console clips down below the drum).
ok so the control is ok .
Next open the dryer door and see if the drum turns freely?
Yes, it does.
ok then it sounds like the belt is good ,
So the olny thing left is the motor .
Here is a link to the part /with price. and installation video .
