Refridgerator has stopped working. Condenser fan runs and internal

Resolved Question:

Refridgerator has stopped working. Condenser fan runs and internal air circulation fan runs. The compressor does not turn on. Both freezer and fridge sides do not cool.

GE Hotpoint side-by-side
Serial: VD22787
Control board: 200D2260G008

Is there a typical cause of failure for this type of unit? Where do I start to diagnose? I can fix this unit or buy another used fridge for $250, what is more cost effective?

Hi,Welcome to Just Answer, My name is XXXXX XXXXX forward to helping you today.

you have a bad mother board in this. its the main control board and is located on the back of the refrigerator behind an 8X10" cover. you need to replace the board, (a common failure on these) you can order the board a the blue link below.

control board you can replace this yourself. it also comes with instructions. well wishes and thanks, Bryan

The control board is $165 plus shipping by the link you sent.

I have found one on ebay for $65 with free shipping. Is that a safe option?

I can buy a fridge that is about 5 years old for $250

Can you tell how old this broken unit is by the model/serial number?

It came with a rental house I bought. If its older than dirt I'm going to be more inclined to replace it than repair it. This may just be the first of many porblems.

well if the board on Ebay is new and still boxed yes it should be fine, it appears your refrigerator was made in 2002 as far as I can tell so its 10 years old, hope this helps, thanks. Bryan
