Customer Question

All of the sudden my dryer is not dryig clothes or collecting lint. the lint is building up around the door. I have pulled it out, checked the lint tube to see that it is clear, vac'ed out the lint trap inside. It also was wet under the dryer when I pulled it out. . . Any suggestions?

Hello, and thank you for using this service. I'll be helping you with your problem today.

The lint build up around the door means that the dryer isn't venting properly. The best thing to do is to determine if the vent inside the dryer or through your house is the issue. If you disconnect the vent from the back of the dryer, you can run a cycle without the vent connected to see if the airflow inside the dryer is the issue. If you don't have problems anymore, then you know the vent through your house is causing the problem.

What about it being damp under the dryer?

it's all the same problem. It has to do with the dryer not venting properly for some reason, whether it's the dryer itself or the vent through your house. That's why you need to disconnect the vent at the back of the dryer and make sure you have good airflow, run it through a cycle and see if you get better results.

Ok, I ran a new load in the dryer after pulling out and removing the lint vent tube. Same thing, Clothes are not dry and lint is pooling up around the door and is damp after running a full cycle.

ok so it sounds like your blower wheel or something like that inside the dryer isn't running, or the vent inside the dryer is clogged. You'll need to take the dryer apart to check everything out and see what's going on with the air flow.

Is that hard to do? Is it something that I can do myself? :(

Likely you will need a technician because that is quite hard to access inside the dryer. Generally the pulley or belt falls off the blower wheel under the drum which is what causes this problem, but if that is the case you wouldn't feel much air coming out the back of the dryer vent at all when it's running.
