Our Maytag washer (bought in 5/94) is making a whirring noise

Resolved Question:

Our Maytag washer (bought in 5/94) is making a whirring noise during the washing and spin cycles. Is this a sign of imminent death or can we get it repaired or evwen repair it ourselves?

okay the one thing you should check on this machine is the belts. this has two and if they stretch the make noise. tip the machine back and check the belts underneath. are they really loose ?

okay , if its comming from the motor your looking at around $147.00 for the motor, I would go to Lowe's and get a simple whirlpool direct drive top load washer, they are the most reliable machines one the market and have been for ten years.Roper direct drive is actually cheaper and is a whirlpool, same parts exactly. these are great machines and you can pick on up for around $250.00, hope Ive been helpful, thanks and best wishes , Bryan
