Appliance Guru :

hello

Customer:

Hi

Customer:

Please tell us what to do to get hot water system working again

Appliance Guru :

Ok it worked before the bottles were changed?

Customer:

Not receiving anything other than hello from you.

Appliance Guru :

Ok it worked before the bottles were changed?

Customer:

yes

Customer:

worked this morning after bottles changed then stopped

Appliance Guru :

Then you have the gas shut off to it. Check it at the unit and the bottles again. This is going to be your issue

Appliance Guru :

Trust me the gas is shut off to it

Customer:

no. Gas is on at bottles and unit

Appliance Guru :

Have you powered the unit off and then back on?

Customer:

cannot hear start up noise and no hot water comes through

Customer:

yes, several times. YOu mean electrical switches

Customer:

sending husband out to check again but don't think so

Appliance Guru :

Turn the power completely off at the breaker or fuse box to the unit

Appliance Guru :

You are sure the gas valve feeding the boiler is on, not off some people get this mixed up

Customer:

Peter has gone out to check again

Customer:

on is when it is visible and off is when the word is not visible?

Appliance Guru :

Turn it the opposite of the way you have it and try it

Customer:

okay will try that now and see

Customer:

he has gone to check

Appliance Guru :

I will be here

Customer:

me too

Appliance Guru :

It's going to be something very simple like this

Customer:

good service you provide. Didn't know it existed. Just went onto Google as were desperate

Appliance Guru :

No problem...we do our best

Customer:

yes, not looking forward to another cold shower

Appliance Guru :

no kidding

Customer:

one this morning was enough

Appliance Guru :

This happens often when changing the bottles

Appliance Guru :

Everyone gets that valve the wrong way

Customer:

the taps that are above the pipes, should they be horizontal or vertical?

Customer:

No difference - no hot water

Appliance Guru :

The valves should be going in the same direction as the pipe when on...are you sure you got full tanks?

Customer:

yes, Origin filled both tanks yesterday

Appliance Guru :

Can you crack a line to see if you have gas?

Customer:

The tap in the middle of the tanks is straight up and down in line with the pipe and not pointing across the pipe

Customer:

yes, he has done that and there is gas

Customer:

at the top of the tanks

Customer:

across the gas tanks I mean

Appliance Guru :

Ont the boiler there is a valve which direction is it

Customer:

you mean heater? It is in line with the pipes leading to the hot water system vertically

Appliance Guru :

Yes

Customer:

yes, it is facing vertically

Customer:

it does not make a noise when you turn it on

Customer:

as it did before

Appliance Guru :

and you have power to it for sure?

Customer:

yes he has checked the mains box

Customer:

the circuit breakers on the mains box have not tripped out

Customer:

Could you recommend a person from the Mackay region who we can call to come and fix tomorrow?

Appliance Guru :

Here one sec let me check something for you before you call anyone

Appliance Guru :

do you see the reset button inside?

Customer:

can't see inside as we can't take front cover off

Customer:

never taken it off.

Appliance Guru :

Can you take it off?

Customer:

does it click off or do you need screw driver

Appliance Guru :

Here do this first:

Appliance Guru :

Please follow these instructions: Turn a hot water tap on, leave it running and head outside. Turn the water inlet valve off/shut (this is the valve that supplies the cold water to the unit, if you look underneath the unit at the bottom panel you will see which pipe is the “cold” pipe), switch the power point off and wait five seconds. After five seconds, turn the power point back on and open/release the water valve. Your hot water unit should now be operational again. If problems persist please call 1300 30 70 37. We advise that you contact your gas supplier and ask for an “Automatic Changeover Kit” to be installed and this should prevent this problem from happening in the future.

Appliance Guru :

Do this exactly

Customer:

okay will go and get him

Customer:

the fan inside the hot water system started but we still do not have hot water

Appliance Guru :

Do it again...it will come back on

Customer:

okay

Appliance Guru :

Just make sure you do everything in the procedure

Customer:

okay. Have sent him out with torch to do that again

Appliance Guru :

As long as all of the gas supply valves are on this will get it back going again

Customer:

will get automatic changeover kit. this is ridiculous. This should be supplied as standard issue

Customer:

the water is still cold

Customer:

the fan is going but the water is cold

Appliance Guru :

Yes get the change over kit it does suck and usually is not this much of a pain

Customer:

unit less than two years old

Appliance Guru :

It may still have air in the gas line

Customer:

how do we overcome that

Appliance Guru :

You may have to do this a few times to get gas flowing

Appliance Guru :

You have to keep cycling it as you have been

Appliance Guru :

Just do it 3 or 4 more times it should go by then

Customer:

never been this hard before always started

Customer:

how did air get in gas line

Appliance Guru :

When you changed the tanks

Customer:

when Origin changed tanks

Appliance Guru :

Yes

Customer:

of course they were no help they just said "ring a plumber"

Appliance Guru :

LOL go figure

Customer:

yes, isn't it always the way. No-one's fault, just the poor consumer

Appliance Guru :

It is trying to start....just make sure the valves are open correctly

Appliance Guru :

Yes it is always the way...

Customer:

didn't even know there was an automatic changeover kit otherwise would have gotten one in the first place

Appliance Guru :

Yeah I should have asked you first most people have it now

Appliance Guru :

Try it a few more times and lets say a prayer it fires:)

Customer:

Have tried six times now

Customer:

no joy

Customer:

cold shower tonight

Customer:

or boil kettle

Appliance Guru :

Can your husband double check and see if there is good gas flow at the boiler

Customer:

need name of person to fix from Mackay area. Do you know anyone?

Customer:

when you say "boiler" you mean the hot water unit or the gas bottles?

Appliance Guru :

Yes the hot water unit

Customer:

how does he do that?

Customer:

what steps does he take

Customer:

there is gas flow at the pipes

Appliance Guru :

At the unit itself can he crack the line there to see if there is gas pressure. There should be a fitting that he can loosen to see if gas starts coming out

Appliance Guru :

1300 30 70 37 this is the number to call to find a good service provider in your area and they can put that kit on as well

Customer:

is that on the pipe on the right hand side?

Customer:

that you would need a screw driver to loosen

Appliance Guru :

The gas pipe you would probably need a wrench to loosen

Customer:

he is not handy. We will call the service provider in the morning

Appliance Guru :

You may want to just call someone out as it is getting involved maybe for him to handle

Customer:

yes, that's right. He does not know what he is doing

Appliance Guru :

Exactly...I wish we could have got it.

Customer:

No worries. Thank you for your help anyway.

Appliance Guru :

At least you know what you need to get put on for next time

Customer:

Have a good evening

Appliance Guru :

you to
