Have you had the defrost heater checked or replaced?
If you are having ice/frost build up on the lower panel in the back of the freezer then you have a bad defrost heater OR a bad control board. Do you have a voltmeter.
where are they located
the ice on back wall is from ice melting from ice maker
Ok. Pull the panel on the inside and look under the coils. there will be a glass tube element held on by a couple of screws. You can remove the screws and visibly check the element. You will usually be able to see a burn or broken spot.
So the water is on the outside of the panel from the icemaker.
Is the icemaker leaking or is the ice melting and leaking from the ice bucket?
I thought you were saying that the ice buildup was on the coils behind the back panel.
water or ice is on inside back wall below ice maker
its from ice melting and refreezing just below
Ok. Check the fill tube going to the icemaker and make sure it is not blocked completely or partially. Also, look for any icecycles hanging from the icemaker. Let me know what you find.
we never hooked up water to unit the wife buys ice every week and dumps it into ice maker
How old is this unit?
there is no water hooked up to refrigerator
there is no water hooked to refrigerator
I understand that. Some of these units have had issues with the defrost system running too long and had a recall issued for it. I just need to know how old your unit is.
ok hold on
not sure 3 or 4 years old model #dss25ksre serial# XXXXX adora is name
I have checked with GE and they were offering a free replacement board on this unit. It is possible that you can get the board sent for free because you are having the same issue that they listed. You will need to call GE at 1/800-386-1215 with your model number and serial number handy. It is possible, not guaranteed, that they will get you the board for free. It is worth a shot. I also recommend that you replace the evaporator motor in the freezer because several customers noted that the fan did not work well with the new board. The part number for the new motor is WR60X10185. the part number for the new board is WR55X10942. I gave you those numbers just in case GE won't replace the board for you.
ok thank you
The control board is on the back of the refrigerator above the compressor area and the fan is behind the panel in the freezer. Both are easy replacements if you have to do them yourself.
