we have a GE Profile diswasher mo.# XXXXX it will attempt to start, the panel will light up and you hit start then it seems to start filling then it all of a sudden stops

Hi,Welcome to Just Answer, My name is XXXXX XXXXX forward to helping you today.

So this just stops filling right away? Do you hear a buzz at all after the water stops coming in or does it completely shut down? The first thing you need to do is check your float and make sure there's nothing restricting its movement up and down, this is on the inside of the dishwasher either on the right on the left side front make sure it moves freely up and down, let me know, thanks, Bryan

Hi Bryan, i did check that float,i pulled the rounde top off and checked that the little nub was able to spring back when pushed down and cleaned all around it. We started it again ,and here's what happened.

1.push start

2. Faint hum.can hear a small trickle of water coming in, lights on the panel that are lit are, normal wash, sensing, and washing. Timer reads 63 min.

3.Stayed this way until timer said 53 then jumped to 48, when it got down to 32 it went back up to 48 and sounded like it was washing.

4. it got to 32 min. then rinsing light came on, we opened it up and it was hot and steamy inside, there was no water in the bottom and the soap in the dispenser was not dissolved.

we have started it before and it will do the faint hum, then shut down after a few minutes and the start light will be blinking, we open it up and close it and press the start button and it pumps water into the drain and stops

Okay, your fill valve has failed, it's electronic and these can get gunked up from deposits in the water and then they don't open either not all away or sometimes a just completely stopped opening, you need to replace it, what's going on is the electronic control is not sensing there is water in this and the water is a timed cycle in the beginning so if it doesn't fill it won't continue or sometimes it may actually time down but it's not going to wash, you can order this at the following link, is located behind the bottom panel under the door and is very simple to replace . http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Water-Inlet-Valve/WD15X10004/824332?modelNumber=PDW7380J10SS thanks and best wishes, Bryan
