Hi,Welcome to Just Answer, My name is XXXXX XXXXX forward to helping you today.

can you spin the drum by hand freely ? is this a loud buzz noise?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Yes I can spin the drum by hand. Is what a loud buzz noise? I don't understand this question. If you mean the sound when I push the start button - this is not a loud buzz like when the cycle is done but more of a quiet buzz.
Expert:  Bryan replied 5 years ago.
okay have someone hold the door switch button in while you spin the drum and press start, does it start?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Yes it started. Why did it start? What causes this to happen?
Expert:  Bryan replied 5 years ago.
unfortunately your motor start windings are shot. this requires replacing the motor however to repair, sometimes they get on a dead spot, does it start now without help?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Yes it started as we closed the door and then pushed the button to test it. So this means the dryer is shot and I will need a new one some time soon?

probably, you never know on these it may run 5 more years ! its funny like that, it has a dead spot in the motor, I would run it as long as possible then replace it. hope I've been helpful, thanks Bryan
