Electric range - Kenmore PLT059-2Malfunctioning oven controls. When oven is on, it it does the following weird things:- turns off by itself- locks the door by itself- getting the "lock" to shut off is difficult.Sears will bill me $129 to send a tech to my house.I don't know if this range is under warranty? It came with our house. I have no info on the purchase.Thanks- Val in Seattle

Hello, and thank you for using this service. I'll be helping you with your problem today.The range is not under warranty any longer. The unit only had a 1 year warranty and this model is older than that.If the unit is turning on by itself and locking itself, then that sounds like your control board is just shorted and will need to be ordered and replaced. The cost of the part is normally about $150-200 and the labor and trip will be about $150 - 200 if you don't do the sears $129 option the have.

Thanks for your reply. It sounds like my best bet is to pay for the Sears service visit. They said the $129 visit fee would be subtracted from any P&L charges. Does that sound right?
yeah, Sears offers that option because most of the time it's simple so they hope to get $129 on a quick fix. This one is not going to be so simple and cheap to replace the part so you'll be getting the better end of the deal if you go that route.
