My whirlpool duet dryer suddenly stopped heating this morning.

Customer Question

My whirlpool duet dryer suddenly stopped heating this morning. I assume its a heating coil, thermostat cut-off or thermostat issue. before I go replace them all, is there anything else it could be or should i just get a repair technician?

Hi I'm John I will help you with the no heat problem.

The thermal -cut off can cause the problem if the element is ok.

Its located on the heater housing the contacts should be closed .

Let me know if that the problem please.

sounds right, how do I know if the contacts are closed or the element has "tripped"

Expert:  John replied 5 years ago.

If you don't have a meter you can unplug the dryer join and tape the two wires together .

Plug the dryer back in and try it if you get heat replace the thermal cut -off.

How can i tell if the contacts are "closed" as you say or "tripped" as the part link states?

With a meter you check the Resistance across the contacts if you don't get a reading its open,
