Robert :

Hello.

Robert :

The 5E error code is a failed touchpad error on your unit.

Robert :

You will have to replace the touchpad on the control panel to fix the issue.

Robert :

Let me get you the part number you will need for the repair.

Robert :

Is the control panel stainless on this unit?

Customer:

yes

Robert :

Ok. The part number is XXXXX It is easy to replaced and can be ordered at www.searspartsdirect.com

Customer:

does the power have to be off

Robert :

Yes. You will have to unplut the unit.

Customer:

there is no visable plug - will have to shut down the breaker?

Robert :

The top vent piece is held in by screws across the top. Remove the screws and then the panel will pull off. This will reveal the screw on the control panel. Take the screw out and then lift on the control panel to get it loose. Lean it out and disconnect the wires to it. You will then be able to take it out and replace the part with a new part.

Robert :

Some units are hard wired. You will have to shut the breaker down in your case.

Robert :

The plug is usually in the cabinet above the microwave if there is one.

Customer:

we are checking the warranty ......... for a tech to do it .................

Robert :

The warranty is usually only 1 year.

Robert :

Is yours older than that?

Robert :

Let me know what you find out. I will be checking back with you.

Customer:

thanks . we have a warranty until 2/1/13
