GE Profile spacemaker 2.0 Exhaust fan buttons. Of the 3 buttons

Customer Question

GE Profile spacemaker 2.0 Exhaust fan buttons.
Of the 3 buttons the "Vent" left one is stuck & inaccessible inside the front housing.
The "Boost" middle one is starting to need to press harder to activate & looks like it will become like the Vent button. ...& the "Light" right still works.
All have become increasing harder to push/activate. Even the left Vent button was working before it became unusable & stuck inside the housing.
How do I remove front w/o having to take out whole unit? ....I saw what the techs had to go thru when they exhanged out a bad magnetron a while ago...took 2 guys.
Aprxx how much $ in parts to fix if DIY project....any advice?..Thanks.Mark

Neilwill :

Hello, Thank you for using JustAnswer! If you have any questions after reading my answer,be sure to let me know.

Neilwill :

Microwaves are not do it your self projects.

Neilwill :

Microwaves store up to 10,000 volts of electricity even when unplugged. And are very dangerous to work on. Every year many DIY selfers are killed trying to save a buck fixing their own microwave. Also once you open the case on a microwave, you need to have a leeak test performed and the tech can do this to make sure it does not leak microwave or radiation after the repair.

Neilwill :

You and your family are worth more than the cost of the repair.

Neilwill :

This is a very fine machine you have

Neilwill :

We sell alot of this model

JACUSTOMER-x89fbbt4- :

I disagree on the " fine machine" ....it has historical problems w/magnetrons & Sear/GE gave me a real hard time on warranty/svs contract to fianlly get it fixed...took way too long

Neilwill :

Neilwill :

Is this the panel with your buttons?

JACUSTOMER-x89fbbt4- :

the fan is really noisy & not all that efficient

Neilwill :

We sell alot of these microwaves and have had very few problems?

JACUSTOMER-x89fbbt4- :

yes.....

Neilwill :

This is the touch pad and it is very expensive to replace.

Neilwill :

Touchpad

Item #1042062 (OEM Part)

$494.20

Touchpad & control panel assembly

Neilwill :

WOW, I would replace the microwave first. This must be a typing error.

Neilwill :

Let me check this crazy price.

JACUSTOMER-x89fbbt4- :

thats hysterical since the machine cost about $600+

Neilwill :

Yes, someone must have posted it on the site wrong. give me a minute to comparison shop.

JACUSTOMER-x89fbbt4- :

so you saying the whole panel has to be replaced?...thats also crazy

Neilwill :

Yes the panel only comes as one piece.

Neilwill :
130 WB07X10733 CTRL PANEL SUB ASM SS In-Stock $ 355.51
Neilwill :

This is crazy. I would not give them that money. I would replace the microwave with a Whirlpool befroe I wound give them $355. plus labor.

Neilwill :

The problem is that it comes as one unit and the separate parts can not be swapped out!

Neilwill :

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

JACUSTOMER-x89fbbt4- :

I agree...would probably cost $500 by the time its done....

JACUSTOMER-x89fbbt4- :

thanks for your time

Neilwill :
