Hello, and thank you for using this service. I'll be helping you with your problem today.

Touch the big black round compressor after you remove the lower access panel on the back of the refrigerator. Is it blazing hot? warm? Cold?

room temp

ok is the fan next to the compressor running or is the refrigerator completely silent?

ok so that means that your thermostat is just not telling the refrigerator to turn on and you will need to order and replace the thermostat inside the refrigerator to fix the issue. Below is a link to the part you'll need to order.

This part is located behind the knob inside the refrigerator. It's the one that you turn to adjust the temperature inside the refrigerator.

fridge fan just turned on - cold air blowing in fridge and freezer

what do you think now?

could it have been in a shutdown cycle because of dirty compressor coil and waiting to turn back on or do I still have a potential problem

Expert:  Tyler Z. replied 5 years ago.
It sounds like your thermostat just didn't kick on the refrigerator and you need to replace the thermostat.

The coils being dirty will cause the unit to warm up but it won't affect the fans at all.

Sorry one more question just to make sure

so what made it kick on fridge now?

you are saying it is intermittent and it could stop again meaning I still need to replace - correct

Expert:  Tyler Z. replied 5 years ago.
it's hard to say what kicked it on. Sometimes just bumping the refrigerator will get it to turn on. Either way, the issue will always come back within a few days so if you don't replace the part it going to be a rather un-reliable fridge.
