Customer Question

Hello.

I have a Whirlpool Washer Model WTW6200SW2 which was purchased in September, 2007. Whenever I use it, the following sequence occurs:

1) I set the dial to “Wash”, select my preferences, push start, it starts filling for about 2 or 3 seconds and stops, then the lid lock latch activates, and it then starts filling again. BUT, that only lasts for about 4 or 5 seconds and then it stops altogether and “F1” shows on the display.
2) I then turn off the power, turn it back on, repeat the process, and the same thing happens.
3) Usually the third, or sometimes the fourth time I do the sequence it then continues to fill normally and the wash cycle starts.
4) Everything goes well until the rinse cycle comes up, and then it stops again, the “F1” indicator shows, and it starts beeping.
5) I turn the power off, manually set the dial to “Rinse and Spin”, turn the power back on, push start, and it continues normally to the end of the cycle.

My question is, do these symptoms indicate a likely cause to you, and if so, how difficult (i.e. expensive) would it be to fix? I like the washer but I hesitate to call for service if it would take a lot of expensive time troubleshooting it.

Thank you for your help.

Hi my name is XXXX, X will be assisting you with this problem.

Unfortunately F1 means the control board/motor control has suffered a fatal error and will need to be replaced. Click HERE to order the replacement part.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask. If you have no further questions please don't forget to hit the accept button since this is how I get paid for my time and effort. Thanks.

When I clicked on the link to get information about ordering the new board, I saw another answer on that page. It said, " Hello Warren. F1 is for an out of range pressure switch. You will need to check the pressure hose and make sure it is not kinked, clogged, or tore. If it is ok, then replace the control board. AP4360738 Hope this helps." Is it possible that maybe only the pressure switch is faulty and not the whole board? I don't want to pay $178 for a new board if it might be something simpler.

No this is not a problem with the pressure switch, not sure what that was but the problem is with the control board. You should be able to find the tech sheet inside the control. This will give you the meaning of the errror code also.

Click HERE to order the part.

Hello Mike.

I am sorry to say, but I don't feel that your advice was worth $28. And here is the reason: After I communicated with you, I did what I should have done in the first place; I looked this problem up on the internet. What I found was many, many entries about the same problem, and reading through them I discovered that Whirlpool will replace the module free of charge. I called them and have an appointment for next week to have it done. I would think that someone in your position would know about that considering how common the problem seems to be. If you had told me that I would have felt it was valuable information and would have gladly paid the $28, but if I had followed your advice alone I would have had to spend $178 (plus shipping) on the module and who knows how much to have it installed. I hope you understand.

Sincerely, Pete Letchworth

you asked what the error code meant and I supplied you with the information, I'm sorry you feel that way but I spent time and effort with this problem and feel I should be paid. Thats up to you though have a good weekend.
