yes just the pulley
when the pulley turns in the direction of spin it should ride up the shaft and release the brake.
if this is not happening then you mast
then you have a bad transmission. it is turning free and letting the pulley spin freely in reverse. this should not happen.
you need to replace the transmission and on this washer you may want to think about replacing the entire washer as this is not cost effective.
thats what i was afaid of . the washer was new aug 2005
these were built to be a low end maytag. they were made with cheap parts and did not hold up very well.
