Resolved Question:

Our top loading Maytag washer model #SAV2655AWW is having a problem. The motor is running but it isn't filling with water. The washer just finished a load and was fine. Could this be the pump?

S.E.Thomas :

hello, welcome to just answer. my name is XXXXX XXXXX and i will be happy to assist you with your problem. If the washer is not filling with water then the motor should not be running.

S.E.Thomas :

Did you word that correctly?

S.E.Thomas :

If so then the pressure switch is most likely not working correctly.

Hi Shaun -

S.E.Thomas :

Hello

JACUSTOMER-nk626qht- :

the washer makes a humming sound as if it's running, the drum is turning (agitating) but no water is filling into the washer when it is turned to the wash cycle load size and the knob is pulled out.

S.E.Thomas :

Then the pressure switch is bad or the tube is clogged. the washer thinks it is full of water.

S.E.Thomas :

The pressure switch is the knob that you set the water level with

JACUSTOMER-nk626qht- :

what tube?

S.E.Thomas :

there is a tube that runs from this switch to the bottom of the tub

S.E.Thomas :

it is a small 1/4 inch tube.

S.E.Thomas :

you can remove the control panel rear cover to access this

JACUSTOMER-nk626qht- :

ok, so do you feel that the pump is ok then ?

S.E.Thomas :

yes. the pump has nothing to do with the washer filling with water.

S.E.Thomas :

The pump only drains the water

JACUSTOMER-nk626qht- :

So rule out the clogged tube first... if that's not clogged then we need to buy a new pressure switch, right? Can we get this at any Home Depot or do you have to go to an appliance store? Thank you so much Shaun and have a good night.

S.E.Thomas :

yes that is correct. The part must be purchased from a local appliance store or www.appliancepartspros.com

S.E.Thomas :

also tap on the pressure switch as they can also stick.

JACUSTOMER-nk626qht- :

thanks Shaun.

S.E.Thomas :

thank you and have a good night

S.E.Thomas :

you can always return to this question if you need
