On these machines my experience has been the drain pump most likely cause of this problem
You should remove the belt and spin it by hand (you can lean the unit back at 45 degrees to access it
Once removed spin the drain pump both directions and see if you hear any noise at all out of it?
I tryed moving the drain pump. No problem there, it moves freely with no noise of any kind.
Does the agitation do anything weird the only other way for it to grind is in the transmission, turn the big pulley and see if it grinds when spun by hand
Yeah when spun clockwise, there is a grinding type noise. It is certainly not a smooth turn. Counter clockwise seems fine.
If it's grinding then you have a bad transmission
Run it till it locks up and replace the machine
part alone not counting the seal you will need is over 200
the seal is around 100 and the time/labor isn't worth it
Unless it's new enough to be under warranty
OK thanks , now I know what to get my wife for Christmas.
Yep ... about that time
Too bad it wasn't the pump
That is much cheaper
