Maytag Neptune MAH8700AWW washer. Used to be pretty quiet.

Resolved Question:

Maytag Neptune MAH8700AWW washer.
Used to be pretty quiet. Now, a grinding noise when the wash cycle starts.
In the spin cycle, it sounds like a jet plane taking off.

Any idess about what is happening?
Thanks.

Hi my name is XXXXX XXXXX you are explaining your rear inner tub bearing is worn..To replace the bearing you would have to remove the complete tub..Replace the rear half of tub as bearing is part of the tub...Parts and labor you would be looking at around $$25.00-$500.00 for repairs CLICK HERE FOR PART The inner tub has a spider shaft which supported by the bearing..Also sometimes the problem will be the spider shaft #21 breaking from the tub itself..Either way complete tub has to be removed for repair

The motor is also making this grinding noise; what would be the cost, if the motor has to be replaced also?
Expert:  Bob L Your Appl Pal replied 6 years ago.
If you also have a faulty motor then i would look more towards replacing with a new unit...CLICK HERE FOR MOTOR Labor would be around $125.00 Also once you use the accept option today please stop by and leave some feedback for my time helping you on your repair if you have the time...If you have any more questions please ask..Thanks Bob

It sounds like, the repair may cost more than a new machine.

Unfortunately basically that is what it boils down to..If it were mine i would replace rather than repair..
