Re: whirlpool duet, GHW9150PWO, front loading washer, 3-4 years old;

Problem #1: attempt to start load but hear click noise from top of machine evry few seconds followed by "F" and "DL" on display.

Problem #2: Upon discovering this is a door lock issue, tried to manipulate the latch in the door lock mechanism and it locked. Am now unable to unlock the mechanism.

Hello, and thank you for using this service. I'll be helping you with your problem today.

You just have a faulty door latch assembly, you'll need to replace it or it will continue to give you trouble. Below is a link tot he door latch assembly you need to order and replace.

As for unlocking the door, tip the machine backwards so that you can remove the 3 screws along the bottom of the lower front panel. Remove the lower front panel and you can reach up behind the upper front panel to where the door latch assembly is. There is a plastic pull tab on the bottom of the door latch. Pull down on this tab and it will unlock the door so that you can open it.

I found the tip regarding the pull down tab on line and already tried it without success.

that's the only way to open the door. If it doesn't you'll need to force the door open by prying it and that may break the door striker which will need to be replaced at that point.
