Hello, and thank you for using this service. I'll be helping you with your problem today.

How old is this unit so I can see if it's under warranty?

Also, do you hear any sounds or se any signs of life even though the compressor isn't running?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

There was a clicking sound, also the top of the compressor was hot.

None of us can remember when it was gifted to us, thought perhaps the

model number would be a guide, possibly it was Christmas 2006.

ok so that clicking sound is the compressor that can't start. Unfortunately there is only a 1 year warranty on these units so you'll want to replace the entire unit because the cost to replace the compressor is about $550 which is about the same cost as buying one new if not more.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

In the booklet that came with the cooler it states there is a 'five year'

warrant on the compressor.

The sealed system does have a 5 year warranty on some units but only the ones manufactured in 2005 or older which would make them over 5 years old now. So without a receipt to prove the purchase date, it's going to be out of warranty.
