i HAVE a GE side by side refrigerator/freezer. Model# GSS20IEPCWW

Customer Question

i HAVE a GE side by side refrigerator/freezer. Model# XXXXX approx 7 years old.
I recently replaced defrost heater w/ new updated double filament heater. I discovered
that the defrost motor(evaporator motor) was not working, therefore no air is circulaating
in freezer compartment. I replaced it with a new one, which also does not work. Is my
problem with the control circuit board on back of refrigerator, or something else.

you're exactly right. This model is very well known and unfortuantely that evaporator fan motor shorts out and it shorts out the control board on the back of the refrigerator when it goes bad really often. You'll want to pull the unit forward and remove the 8" x 10" sheet metal panel to access and replace the control board.

yes you can, the board doesn't short out the evaporator motor, just the other way around.
